PHRYGIAN 15 x 20" - ink and pastel If my house were burning, I would try to take a few instruments among irreplaceable possessions... though instruments are sometimes more like companions than objects. An instrument weathers the good times and bad with its owner. It exudes the love that was poured into it, the energy of hours of practice and performance. The concentric lines in the grain of the wood seem to mark the seasons in the life of the musician, the capillary action of the strings keeping the wood warm with life. |
